When I first started doing my hair it would take me forever (meaning a couple of days to do my hair) Now it only takes me one, only when I'm pushing for that goal. However due to the fact that I have 2 small kids to look after it has been hard. I still don't know how many hours it ususally takes me. My hair is due for a retightening maybe this time around I will time myself. I will admit at times I do miss someone being able to retighten my hair in less time, but I don't miss all the headache I had. I wonder if I seeked another consultant to retighten my locks, would I get the 3rd degree. I just want them to do my hair, not ask me personal questions about why I stopped seeing my first consultant. Anywho maybe one day.

Throughout the months I have learned alot of things about my hair. I have realized that my hair needs to be retightened in 3-4 weeks. I have also learned that my hair needs and loves conditioner. I have gone through some thinning issues, in which I have had to combine some locks, and I'm finally okay with it. My edges are starting to grow back, so now I just have to wait and be patient for them to fill back in and then start new baby locks. I'm so ready to add some new color to my hair but I know my hair isn't ready yet. I initially wanted to color my hair on my 2 year lockversary but moved it back to my 3 year mark, because I don't think my hair was ready. I honestly don't know if I could wait that long. Until then I'll be researching colors. I know I coudln't post without pictures so here are a few shots of a braid out that I did a few weeks ago. I think it turned out pretty good. I also did a soft spike set but it didn't turn out that great because I didn't leave the curlers in long enough, next time I'll be patient!

I'm glad that I made the decision to DIY too, it's so much easier to be able to do it on my own time and terms than having to bother with setting appointments. Lately I've been thinking about seeing a consultant or loctician to have a grooming done and tidy up my parts.
Your edges will spring up before you know it. Not sure if you've already seen it, but here's a link that shows you how to start a new lock (I've used it before)

Although I have done my assigned section, I am glad I can still go to my consultant and even when I get proficient enough to handle my whole head, I'll probably go once or twice a year for maintaneance. I want to color my hair too, but there is only one stylist here who can color locks and frankly I am like you, I don't think my hair is ready for color. Shoot, I am still banding and braiding.

Thanks for the link, I don't think I have seen this video before, I'll be sure to check it out. As far as going to see a loctician I never thought about that, ( I forgot that some loctician know how to latch locks( duh, lol) anyhow for some reason I'm afraid of gogin to see a consultant, because I havent seen one in so long and I'm afraid they will tell me no, Likve I've been kicked out of the club, lol.

I guess we both have to be patient on the color, as far as the braiding an banding don't feel bad I was braiding and banding well into after my 1st year, after a while I just got tired of it and started being rebeliious, lol but my locs had no prolems with slippage.
Thanks for stopping by ladies!
Has it been a year already? Way to go! Your hair looks marvellous.
I am so in awe of everyone in the DIY club, you guys really amaze me. I thought I was a patient person until I tried doing my own Sisterlocks....LOL!!! My goal is to be doing my full head by the end of this year, before the move to Atlanta.
Your locks are looking good... I don't know if you've mentioned or I asked but what are you using on your edges?

I still admire everyone who does their own hair, lol. When I first started doing my hair I didn't look forward to the sessions, now since I have picked up a little speed, (just a little, lol) I just go right to it. Don't worry the more you practice the better you'll get. Start off with small sections at a time so you don't feel overwhelmed.
Thanks for the comment, as far as my edges I was using Jamaican Mango and Lime Lock Gro, however just a couple of days ago I started using Dr Miracle's Gro Stimulating Oil. The JML product seemed like it was working however I think my hair was getting used to it or I was being impatient,I didn't really feel it working in my head anymore. I aslo heard that this particular product by Dr Miracle worked. Although I don't really care for their advertisement
I'm desparate for hair gowth, lol so I decided to give it a try, and I don't want to speak to soon but I think I might see some results with this product, but then again it could just be something that they put in it to make it feel like it's working. I guess only time will tell. Take Care

You go girl... Congrats on the one year of self maintenance~
Hi again, I have posted a picture of the Sisterlock tool that is used on my hair. I would have taken a picture of the other one but my consultant has lost or misplaced it and she says that they cost about $30 so needless to say, she has not ordered another set.
