Hello my name is Valencia but you can call me V. After years of damaging my hair, I knew there had to be a better way. So I decided to take the path to go natual and lock up. I was Sisterlcoked from June 2006 until Sept 2010 (4yrs). In which during that time I truly enjoyed my hair freedom. Unfortunately my journey had to come to end due to post partum hair loss. I have recently started a new journey this past September, and looking forward to all the ups and downs. As a new Sisterlocks™ Consultant I want to give women and men that same freedom.

New Locs? = New Hair Routine

I'm referring to my baby locs that is, I have several new ones. Due to the fact that when I was severely ill earlier on in my pregnancy, I wasn't able to take care of my locs the way I was suppose to. Which led to months of my locs not being retightened, a big NO NO. So my hair suffered, which also led to several locs becoming married together and breaking off. Should I be mad? I was at first but there is nothing I could do about it. It is only hair, right? It will grow back. I was thinking about reattaching my locks once they became locked, but then I might leave them be because then my locks will be somewhat layered.

Anyhow since I have several new locks I basically have to start over and treat all of my locks like they are brand new. I do want my new locks to lock fast so whatever I have to do to speed up that process I will do. This means keeping things simple and less products. There is no sure way knowing that this will work but it is worth a try. I also started braiding and banding again (
only the new locs) So I have a new hair routine.

Washing: Due to my scalp issues I HAVE to wash my hair/scalp once a week to keep the dandruff at bay. The products I use is Nizoral which is an anti-dandruff shampoo. This shampoo does wonders for my scalp, I will always be a fan of Nizoral Shampoo . This shampoo works without giving you that tingling feeling that makes you think the product is working. I also started back washing with the Sisterlock Starter Shampoo . Not really sure if I'm a fan of this shampoo, but hey whatever it takes. I also tried a new shampoo Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo , not sure if I'm a fan of this shampoo either, but I love the way it smells! When my baby locks are matured I plan on going back and sticking to my all time favorite Fantasia IC 100% Tea Shampoo . When diluted this shampoo lasts for days!

Condition: No conditioners!

Spritzing: I only spritz with sea salt water. I heard that sea salt is suppose to aid in the locking process, not sure if this statement is true but it's worth a shot. I spritz with this about three times a week.

Misc.: Due to the fact that I do have dandruff issues the only other product I use is Jamaican Mango & Lime No More Itch Spray . This also helps with keeping my dandruff at bay and plus it smells great! I use this (only on my scalp) about two times a week.

Rinses: I do an ACV rinse about once a month, right before I get my hair retightened.
This also helps with cleansing the scalp and the itches!

Styling: I haven't been doing much styling lately. I usually freestyle or put my locs in a ponytail. Wow it feels good to say that, never thought I would be able to reach that milestone. When I am up to styling I usually do braidouts. I used my Soft Spikes , once recently. The curls came out great, however it rained that day and I didn't have my umbrella! I will share pics of them before. I think I may purchase the longer soft spikes in the future as my locks are getting longer.

Coverings: I now keep my hair covered at night and sleep on a silk "type" covering. I am dealing with lint, and it is really bothering me that i can't seem to get rid of it so to prevent my lint build up from worsening. I now keep my hair covered as much as possible.
Anyhow that is pretty much it, I keep it simple. Two shampoos, water spritz, and only one product for my scalp.

I leave you with a few recent pics of my locs.

This first collage is of pics of my hair during washing, after washing, and braids/braidout.

These are a few pics with my soft spikes and results.

Well I just want to wish everyone a happy new year! Thanks for stopping by.

Soft Spikes Challenge

I hear so much from other sisters how long their curls last and I am amazed with their results. So I decided to do a Soft Spike challenge to see how long my curls would last.
To prepare I washed my hair at night before, I also added Elasta QP Design Foam to help aid in the longevity of the curls. To make sure that my hair was dry.( Still waiting on that Purple People heater!) I let the SS stay in my hair for 24 hours (Glad I didn't have to go anywhere! lol) Anyhow the first day I took them out I wore them as is. Then the following day I finger combed the curls out. My curls lasted for about a total of 7 days. They probably would have lasted longer if I wasn't working out. I didn't think to do much styling maybe next time. All in all I was happy with the results and I will try them again. I wonder if my curls would have lasted longer if I would have dried my hair with heat. There is only one way to find out! Well I hope everyone in blog land is doing fine. Until next time much love!

Oh by the way this is another ColdPlay Song called "In My PLace". I can't help it I'm addicted, I think they make good music. I can listen to them all day!

Bringing In The New Year With Curls

Day 1

I decided to give my Soft Spikes ( regular size) another try. When I first purchased them, I wasn't too fond of the curls, they were kind of tight. However now that I have a little length I think I like them. I'm still going to get the jumbo size one day but I think I will give these a few more tries before I do.

Day 2 I'm wearing one of my Brunsli Hair Ties
I know you can't really see the curl patttern that great in this picture but it did turn out good.

I set my hair on the Soft Spikes right after I washed them. I also spritz my hair with diluted Lotta Body to help the curls last. Since I wasn't going anywhere I let my Soft Spikes stay in for over 24 hours. I wanted to make sure that they were fully dry, since I don't have hair dryer as of yet. The first day I took them out I wore them as they were, and on the second day I hand combed them out. I am happy with the reuslts. I just wanted to try something new besides free styling all the time. Anyhow I hope everyone had a bleesed New Years, until next time much love.

Day 3 I'm sporting one of my Tomoka's Twists and Earrings

I was excited when I finally got them in the mail. I love them and the earrings, thanks Carmen.

P.S. You know I had to eventually add my rock music into the playlist. This is one of my favorite songs by Cold Play. If you don't like Cold Play something is wrong with you! Lol, I'm just kidding.( Well not really)

My Sisterlocks Wish List

( This is what you do when you are sord of bored...) You think up a whole list of stuff that you may not need but really want, to make you happy.

1. Brunsli Hair Ties

2. Some More Tomoka's Twists (Have some on the way!)

3. Jumbo Soft Spikes (In Purple of course). I already have the regular ones but I think I will like the jumbo size better.

4. Some More Brunsli Hair Ties

5. Medium Nappy Lock Tool ( I currently have a small and majority of my locks have swelled up which is a good thing!)
* That is also on the way!

6. 2008 Sisterlocks Calendar

7. Wrap-A-Loc (I so adore those curls!)
* I tried the pipe cleaners not feeling them, and plus I can't find any in black or brown.

8. The Purple People Heater I've been searching for a hair dryer for a minute now and being able to find one in purple with the help of Renea and Brunsli has ended my search.Yes I would buy this hair dryer because it is purple( yes I already know I'm crazy lol). Now if only I can talk my DH in buying this lovely gift for me,lol. I'm working on it though and I have to say I'm wearing him down! He will give in eventually. Asking him for the new Verizon Voyager isn't helping either but I know I will get my way! Hey it's his fault for spoiling me, lol. Isn't that what Husbands are for? Anyhow on to # 9, yes there is more!

9. Aquis Microfiber Turban . You guessed it. I want it in Purple! It took me long and hard to find one in purple majority of the sites didn't sell them anymore but I found one that did only to find out there on back order but that's okay I'll wait!

10. Good Hair Conditioner. I only condition my hair once a year until they completely lock and I'm looking for a good one before June. If any of you have any recommendations please let me know.

11. Did I mention Brunsli Hair Ties ? Lol

I think that is about it. I hope I haven't forgotten anything! I'm sure I have more. After reading this post I have realized that I have a very long list, and that I am in love with the color purple. Oh well I guess I better go do something constructive. Until next time much love!

Soft Spikes!!

Well I finally decided it was time to try my soft spikes! I knew I wanted to try them before the New Year I just didn't look forward to actually doing the labor! Anyhow it was time for me to wash my hair again so I took the opportunity. This time I actually decided to try the ACV rinse. I mixed it with water half and half and put it in a spray bottle. The spray bottle has become my bestfriend! It is so helpful and very good at distributing hair products all over the hair and scalp! I use them for my water spritz, my shampoo, and my ACV because that does not smell to good, so I decided that it should have its own bottle! Anyhow I was on lockitup the other day and someone gave advice to use a toothbrush with the ACV and scrub gently. That was great advice after using the ACV rinse my hair felt so clean and fresh I should've done this sooner because I have dry scalp problems! Anyhow I recommend the ACV Rinse to anyone who has problems with dry scalp or itching it really helps!

Now as far as the soft spikes. I think they are really great. Despite how many curlers I had in my hair they were very easy to sleep on! Now I'm not really sure how to use them yet. I 'm sure that I didn't curl all my locks in the same direction but that was okay as long as they got curled! I also wasn't sure how many locks to put on each roller but I think I used about 5-10 locks per curler. I also think that the tighter you curl your hair you get a tighter curl effect and the looser you curl your hair you get looser curl effect.

Next time I try it I will go for a looser effect! This time around I curled my locks real tight and they came out that way! I like it though it almost looks like I have an afro. I guess overtime my curls will fall! The pic of the first collage is with the curlers taken out and the last collage is pictures of my locks finger combed and spritzed! I also added a simple B-Tie to seal the deal! Well I will catch up with you gals later! Happy New Years and please be safe! Much Luv, Sistalocd!
