My Pro's & Con's to having short hair!

Well since I have cut my hair I noticed there are a lot of things I love about my short hair and some things that I dislike.

I figured I would share them with you all..

CON's

1. Can't fit my hair in a ponytail anymore. I missed though days. During my permed years I was never able to so when that day finally came I loved it and never thought I would be ponytailless(yes I just made that word up) again.

2. For a while I kept reaching for hair that wasn't there... the con is that it made me look pyscho, lol.


3. Can't really do anything to it.... but wear it as is. (which is also a bonus at times) However my afro is starting to do it's own thang and I'm having a hard time of shaping it the way I want to.

4. Starting to become a product junkie all over again... Due to my short hair and my fro not behaving like I want it to. I'm always buying/searching for products to assist with the look I'm going for.

PRO's

1. I don't have to worry about styling it... just get up and go! I love this at times, however sometimes I do wish I could do more to it but I'm limited with styles due to it's shortness.

2. My dandruff and dry scalp have literally disappeared! Not sure where it went and don't want to know just happy it's gone, and hope it stays that way.

3. I wash my hair more often... It's so easy to wash or co-wash my hair everytime I get into the shower. Now I try to stick to 2-3 days a week. Because before I was out of control, but I'm getting better.

4. Another good thing about short her is that I save time in the bathroom.  I guess that can go along with pro #1.


Anyhow thats it for now. My hair is defineitely growing back in more areas than some but I still have some thin spots. I'm going to continue to be patient. With my next update I'll be sure to post pictures. I officially miss my locks but still love that I'm learning about my natural hair. I hope to relock soon but I know I need to be very patient.

The REAL Me... Take Me As I AM: I ditched the wigs!

So after about after a month in a half. I decided to ditch the wig. I couldn't stand it anymore. I felt like I wasn't being myself, that I was somebody else. My original plan was to wait until Jan to wear out my natural hair, but I'm so glad I didn't wait. Because I literally felt a weight lifting off of me once I let go of the wigs!

I know that may sound weird when I was already natural, but to go from natural then back to wigs, I was quite uncomfortable, and I'm glad I'm back to my regular self!

So what did my coworkers have to say?  See for yourself... I will share them with you below.

Believe it or not, I received majority of posistive comments. Most of my coworkers loved my hair and said it fitted me. For those that were unsure they just mentioned that I cut my hair.

Now the frequent comments that  baffled me where when people stated that I went natural or oh you cut your hair to go natural?  Ummm..... Huh?  Where have you been? I was already natural and have been for the past 5 years, lol! I guess some people out there still don't understand.

Anyhow one comment really took me by surprise was from a Spanish older woman. She didn't hold back anything.

Oh my what did you do to your hair? I don't like it.... you should put something there. Referring to a wig.. she doesn't speak much english but I'm pertty sure she was telling me that I need to put a wig or a weave on, lol. Now I could have gotten down and dirty with this woman but I didn't. I think I really did good specially coming from a Black Woman's perspective. I just told her that I like it, it's my hair, and thats all that matters.

Now from some of my Black male co-workers besides the ones mentioning that I cut my hair, there was no feed back what so ever, lol. I'm sure they have learned over the years.. if you  don't have anything nice to say about a womans hair don't say anything at all! LOL

What really caught me off guard was receiveing a compliment on my hair from a White male. He said he LOVED my hair, and that I looked much better without the wig! He has no idea how much he made my day.

So as you can see majority of the comments were positive, and although I know it shouldn't matter what people thought of my hair, I'm glad that alot of people shared their positive feedback. Me ditching the wig also has inspired a co-worker to go natural. I just hope she decides to hang in there.

Well I have more stories to share from my close friends and family, but thats a another post. Hope all is well with everyone. And Ladies please be alert during your everyday activities you know there are people out there willing to get anything for nothing. So becareful during this holiday season.

4th Installation... How Did I Pass this By?

This is my fourth install. Her locks were started back in July.

This client has different textures throughout her hair and started with permed ends.

Those permed ends have since been cut off. Which I think turned out great, she was planning to leave her permed ends alone but couldn't stand them for too long and chopped them off. I think she looks great her hair curls naturally and I just love the outcome. When I get updated pictures of how her locks look now I will post them.

Do's and Don'ts for Sisterlocks

I 've been meaning to post this for the longest. Finally had the time.

Now keep in mind these are just my opinions, but I'm sure it will help a few....

This post is mainly for newbies, however I'm sure it can help others as well.

Do's

1) DO make sure you do your research about Sisterlocks first before making the commitment.

2) DO make sure that you interview and see work of a Sisterlocks Trainee (if possible) or Consultant before choosing one.

3) DO make sure the Sisterlocks Trainee or Consultant that you choose has took the training and is listed on the Official Sisterlocks Website.

4) DO Listen to your Sisterlocks Trainee/Consultant.... majority of them know what they are talking about. However if you have some concerns let them know and get a second opinion.

5) DO Braid and Band your locks when shampooing or swimming (always, until locked). I know it can be a tedious task but it will be so worth it in the end.

6) DO use the Sisterlocks Starter shampoo if your scalp/hair can tolerate it, it actually works.
(However I do understand that some things don't work for everybody and some people try to stay away from some of the chemicals that are in common shampoos). I'm really thinking that maybe as a whole we can reach out to the Sisterlocks Company and maybe suggest that they make their products all natural, that way more people would be open to using them, just a thought).

7) DO wear a satin bonnet or a satin "type" covering when around dust or clothes/hats that contain lint. Over years lint can be troublesome to get rid of. Also while sleeping DO sleep on a satin pillow case if you don't use a head covering.

8) DO take the retightening class. Even if you don't plan on ever retightening your locks. It will help you in the long run. Specially on those days when you or your consultant are not able to keep the appointment. Or when you just want to freshen up the front for a special occasion. Besides you never know one day you might enjoy doing your own hair.

Now for the DON'Ts

1) DON'T use products other than shampoo specially in the beginning months. (However water spritz with Essential Oils won't hurt. Otherwise Grease, Beeswax, and Gel,  is not necessary and Heavy Oils, Conditioner, and Moisturizer will delay the locking process.

2) DON'T use too much products when you are able too, they create build up and build up can in turn be hard to get rid of.

SN: You know how they say "Less Is More" I'm starting to think that is true. I have a client who has had Sisterlocks for 10 years and she says all she does is wash them and uses a water spritz every now and then and her locks are Gorgeous! I mean ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!

3) DON'T go longer than 8 weeks without a retightening. (I recommend no longer than 6 weeks). If you wait any longer you have the chances of your locks thinning and eventually breaking off. Unfortunately this has happened two me twice during my locked years. I had complicated pregnancies in which I was too sick to get my hair done and went months without retightening. One day I will post picks of those locks, the went from normal in size to thin, normal to size and thin again.... not a good look in my book. If for some reason you can't make it to your consultant/trainee. See if they can come to you.

4) DON'T keep your Trainee/Consultant in the dark. Please express with them some of the concerns you may have with them or your hair, because they will never know unless you tell them. Sharing with them will only help them get better.

5) DON'T use heat too often this can alter your her texture and sometimes delay the locking process. Also DON'T over manipulate you hair by styling too much or constantly messing with your hair. This can also overtime delay the locking process.DON'T put too much tension or pull on your locks too often,  this can also cause breakage and thinning of locks as well.

6) DON'T treat your locks like crap, you've invested a lot of time and money to get your hair done. So take very good care of them.

7) DON'T Dye/Color your locks yourself. Please see a professional. Unless you absolutely know what you are doing.  SN: If you love to color your hair you should do it BEFORE you get your locks installed.

8) DON'T attempt to retighten your hair if you do not know what you are doing. It will create problems down the line even if you don't see them right away. Although I highly recommend taking the class I've seen people do well learning from you tube videos. However You Tube wont help ever body so if you can please take the class.

As I still plan to start my locking journey in the future I will have to apply these Do's and Don'ts myself. This is the main reason why I'm writing this. Although the thinning and balding I experienced was the main reason for starting over, it wasn't the only reason. I had to learn some things the hard way. However I still don't regret it one bit, because now that I have the knowledge that I do now, I know my next experience with locks will be so much better.

Some of these guidelines are from the official Sisterlocks website, but please remember these are my thoughts, that would be helpful in the lock process.

For Now.....

I must say I never thought this day would come. I was always talking about starting over, but never had the courage of doing so. I was so stuck on how long my hair had gotten. I never had hair that long(unless it was fake) I never knew my hair had the possibility of growing that long. I guess now that I do know, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be to let it go.

I must say that special day came quicker than I planned. After having the baby (4 months or so) I experienced thinning edges, I had the same problem with my second child. Although I was hoping and praying that I would not suffer, the hair loss happened anyway and I think this time was worse then the last. So at that moment I was feeling disgusted with my hair/locks it wasn't looking the way that I wanted it too. I had majority of my locks short in the front and very long in the back, I could not deal with the mullet look any longer. So I started cutting my locks in the back short. Every few days I cut them about 1-2 inches short, until I got tired of looking at them at all. My original plan was to grow out my new growth without retightening, until it got to a certain length. I just couldn't take it anymore so one day I started cutting them one by one, and the good thing about it is I did not cry, lol. I actually felt kind of liberated once I cut my locks off, I feel strange saying that but I did. It honestly felt like I was supposed to do so and I'm so glad I did because I would have never found out what I do now.

As you can see by the photos I've experienced hair loss in places more than my edges, I had no idea it was this bad.  Suprisingly I did not lose one lock, but they were getting thinner. I remain optimistic about my hair, it is only hair right? I already see improvement in my edges, however I'm not so sure about the other areas. Some areas on my scalp look as if they're scarred where no folliciles are sprouting. I'm a little worried about those areas because that usually means no hair will grow in that area. Who'd a thought I would be going bald before 30?  I honestly don't think my scalp was like this before locks because I'm pretty sure my consultant at that time would have told me. Then again who knows. I would never known because I never paid any attention to my hair until after I got locks. Which is why I don't feel bad for cutting my hair. Its like getting to know me and my hair for the first time. I've realized that I have two textures possibly three, I've also realized that my hair is not as nappy as I thought it was, I'm learning that my hair in the back is actually thick, (well except for one part) I have severe thinning issues, in the front and top of my hair. I also think that my hair in the back, might be naturally curly, its kind of too short to tell at this point. I'm really looking forward to this new journey for some reason, I feel like I missed out, but don't worry locks we shall meet again.

I really wanted to share this post and specially reach out to  Bajan Lilly, girl you are not alone. I was trying to hang in there but I could no longer. I don't regret my decision one bit. I always try to keep my mind on the positives instead of the negatives it is only hair right....? I have hopes about it growing back but if it doesn't that is fine too. As long as I have God and  my family by my side, and a sane mind, I have no complaints.


Are you ready for another surprise.... My hubby cut his locks as well. To be honest I was a little shocked when he did but because I know it was for a good cause, so I couldn't get mad. Anyhow we are both experiencing new beginnings in life and it couldn't have come at a more perfect time. ME and MY HUBBY ARE ONE! I've known that from the beginning but it is more prevalent as the years go by. I honeslty think even if it wasn't for the circumstances he would have done it anyway just to be supportive. My hubby was surprised at my hair cut, he knew it was coming but he had no idea how soon. I admit the first day he was taken aback, but he got over it quickly, and love him for it. However my only issue is that I don't feel as sexy as I  did with my long locks, but I'm sure I will get over that soon. He is also planning to grow back his locks as well. Maybe will even start on the same, date. Lol!

In the mean time while me and hubby were putting our locks to rest,  I was preparing my son to give birth to his, lol. I'm installing Brotherlocks on my son, photos coming soon!

He has anticipation written all over his face, NOT! Lol

So what do I do now? Unfortunately I wear a wig (only @ work though) and it is so NOT ME.

The wig actually looks better on me, but I can't stand it though!

I hate it! Seriously I only wear it to work( 3 days out the week and even that is too many days to be wearing a wig), and the only reason why I wear it is because of the thin/bald spots in my hair. The shortness doesn't bother me if only my scalp was full all over, I have no shame in rockin that incy weeny teeny weeny afro. I just hope that my hair will fill in and soon, because I feel like I'm selling out, I so wish they had natural wigs besides afro's. I'm ready to let the real me out! I plan to show the real me by Jan 1st if not sooner.

After reading a few blogs, I've come to find out that I might need to see a dermatologist. That is indeed my plan if I dont see any progress in a month or so.
I actually feel better now that I've gottent that off my chest, hope my story gives hope to someone, one way or another.

My next post will be on what not to do to your Sisterlocks. I've been meaning to write this for a while now, but it's part of the reason why I wanted to start my journey over in the first place. I'm pretty sure this story will help several ladies out there.

My Sisterlocks Business is going well. I have new photos to post, I will post them on FB and on here some time in the near future.

Nappy Anniversary

5 Years!!!!

This month marks the month that I decided to leave the creamy crack alone and go natural!.

It wasn't a hard decsion at all I got tired of perming my hair, and what's the use of perming something(talking about my hair) that wasn't there in the first place. At that time my hair was very short and thin and would not grow past below my ears.  My hubby also encouraged me to go natural and lock up which made it easier!

I must say this was one of the best decisions I ever made.  Although I really didn't get a chance to know my natural hair, due to wearing wigs, and sew ins and braids. I still loved the fact that I would eventually be starting a new journey. I'm never going BACK!

Anyhow right now I'm still experiecing some thinning/hair loss at my edges due to post pregnancy hormone changes and I CAN"T STAND IT!. My hair is finally starting to grow back but it is not growing back fast enough. Don't worry I still love my hair and I will embrace what I have.

I havent been blogging as much lately, started back working full time and business it starting to pick up. So I will update as much as I can in the future. I have a SHOCKING surprise that I'm not ready to let out yet, but stay tuned it's coming.

Black Love : Anniversary

Lately I'm often finding myself in a loving mood, which is good. I think my hormones are starting to return back to normal, since the baby.

Earlier this month me and the hubby celebrated our 6 year anniversary. I can't believe it's been that long. I must say that marriage is getting easier. We are truly blessed. I think we are over the hard part. Don't get me wrong I know that I cant tell the future, I just figure by now it shouldn't be hard to deal with situations if they ever occured. We basically know each other now and know how to deal with one another without stepping on each other's toes. I thank God that neither one of us like to argue(we are both quiet) so it doesn't happen often. I can probably count on one hand how many times we argued. Which is good because arguing leads to fighting and fighthing is so not worht it. Thank you God for the drama free relationship. I will say that communication plays a major role in any relationship. Communication will never get old, and you never can have enough of it. So if your not communicating start and if you already communicating, communicate some more!

I just want to thank God for putting this man(J) in my life. We've known each other since high school. The 2nd time I layed eyes on him
(definitely not the first, lol) I dreamed of marrying this man and having his kids. Years and years went by but we stayed in touch. We did our own thing and then God opened both our hearts to receieve one another. Every since then it has been great. I believe I knew we were meant to be together before he did so thats why we remained friends. He's my friend of 14 years my best of 9 and my Husband of 6. I thank God for allowing us to have kids together, their is no greater joy. I'm really happy about the life that I have and the Black Love as well.

My Husband's Brotherlocks

This is my J's 3rd set of locks. If you want to be technical it is probably his 5, but the first two sets don't count because he didn't keep them in for more than 2 months, lol.  His first two sets ever were started with comb coils/palm rolling. He has a scalp condition and couldn't deal with the fact of not being able to wash his hair. So thats when the official locking started



The official first set started with braids/plaits. The hair was not parted he just grab and plaited and kept it moving. After about a year he realized that he didn't like, they were two fat and not neat enough for him.

 So last year around April or May I took them down and did them over.

 The 2nd time I tried to part them better and I used the interlocking method using the Nappy Locks Tool. I must say we were both happy with this set. They came out really nice, however due to my pregnancy and getting really sick. I was unable to keep up with the maintenance of his locks and they started looking bad. He we would only show his locks when he first got them retightened. We both were starting to dislike his locks.  However after looking at these photos they dont look as bad.

So after taking the Sisterlocks class I was thinking of starting Brotherlocks on him.(Plus he could be my walking advertisement, lol) It took several conversations and I mean several to talk him into taking his locks down one more time. He was not happy with the idea.  We had multiple taking down locks sessions. This was not a fun experience, he was complaining too much, plus his locks were halfway locked so it made taking them down difficult.

However we did make it through, and finally finished installing his new Brotherlocks, so far he likes them very much, he is in love with the parting they are nice and neat, now he thinks they are a little too small, go figure. I told them they will thicken up, not to worry. We have both agreed that this is the last time for locks, if he wants another set he will be cutting them off and starting over. However I really feel that this is the set for him and that he will be happy with them now and years to come.

I plan on using his locks to practice styles on that I can use for my clients, and myself, lol. However I have seen some nice styles out there that are unisex.

3rd Install

Induction of another Sisterlocker.

I really enjoy given women the hair freedom, with Sisterlocks.  I would love to learn new things, that I can do with natural hair, and not limit myself to Sisterlocks. I believe Natural Hair among African American Sisters is a Movement not just a fad!

Anyhow the more installs I do the better my technique and timing gets.

This client started with permed ends and has about 3-4 inches of natural hair. I cant wait to see her progress.

Sisterlocks Product Review

Although I am a recovering product junkie, I still find it hard to stay away from some products, lol.

Today I want to talk about the Sisterlocks Reconstructor Conditioner.
I feel bad to say that I have had this product for over a year now and have used very little( I only condition when my locks need it, which is not often). When I did use it I never paid attention to what it did to my hair/locks, I know shame on me. So the last two times I used it I promised myself to pay attention.

The first time I used it, I used it as a regular conditioner after a fresh shampoo, I let it sit for 5 min and then rinsed it out. The second time I used it as a leave in after I washed my hair. I only used a little, a little goes
a long way. It was very easy to apply.

I have come to like this product very much. I think that it works well at conditioning my locks. My locks look and feel really healthy after I apply the conditioner to my locks. I love the fact that the conditioner is non-greasy and very light weight. So it doesn't weigh down my locks nor does it create a lot of build-up.

I have yet to try this product on my locks while they are dry, maybe I will try that next. I hear some people dilute this product with water and use it as a spritz. When I do try it that way I will let you know how I like it. Its very important for me to keep my locks moisturized and conditioned since I have dyed it recently. For those of you that do use the Reconstructor Conditioner how do you all use it and how do you like it?

What shall I try next? I think I will try the Herbal Spray Moisturizer. Anyone else use this product or tried it? Do you like it why or why not?

I have finally finished my hubby's Brotherlocks. I posted pics on FB I will post them on my blog as well. I'm behind on posting pictures I have completed a 3rd install & approaching a 4th, I will post them both then.

Bantu ------> Not

Ok for some reason bantu knots/knot outs are not for me, lol. My bantu-knots did not turn out like I hoped they would. This was my 3rd attempt in all my locked years. They say practice makes perfect,  I guess I need to keep practicing, lol.

The problems I ran into
1) Some knots where to tight and some were too loose. Majority of them were too tight. I had them so tight that it caused a headache, and even so my head was hurting days after I took them down. Never again will  I torture myself. I left them in even when they were hurting because I wanted them to come out perfect, but that didn't happen.
2) I let my hair get too dry. It takes my hair forever to air dy now, so when ever I do braidouts or roller sets.  I let my locks dry a bit before I set them, however this time I let my locks get too dry, specially on the ends because they didn't have any curls when I took the bantu-knots down.
3)I did a single strand twist when I probably should have done a two strand twist, however I think the real problem was letting my hair get too dry.

What have I learned for my next attempt.
1) Do not make the bantu knots too tight to the point of causing headaches
2)Leave my hair a little damp, or if get s too dry, wet it again.
3)Try two-strand twists instead
4)Take my time setting the bantu-knots( I was kind of in a rush)

Do you single strand twist or two strand twist your hair/locks before putting them in bantu knots?

Do you see the curls? Of course you don't!
The curls that did come out werent too bad. I figure if I had done the bantu-knots properly I would have liked the results. I haven't given up I will attempt this look some time in the future!

Anyhow now on to my next style attempt. It may be a while.
 I'm installing Sisterlocks in my daughter's hair and Brotherlocks in my hubby's hair. So excited!

Are those extensions?

I guess my locks length has finally gotten to that point where people are starting to assume that my hair is fake. I know the new color doesn't help but it's all good.
When people ask me this question I pay it no mind cause I love when they ask me question. I'm very proud with joy because I can finally say no this is all mine baby...all mine. No extensions needed! Lol
Do you all get offended when people ask if you have extensions? Or do you smile with joy?
I just washed my hair today, I'm currently doing a bantu set. I haven't done one in years and I've only done two since I've been locked. This shall be interesting. Pictures coming soon so stay tuned.

4 Years on Lock

4 Year Lockversary! (June 1st, I'm a little late)

Time flies when you are having fun! Can't believe it's been 4 years already!

I also can't believe how much my hair has grown! My hair is the healthiest and longest its ever been!

Although I was contemplating starting over, I can't imagine cutting my hair now, I'm loving this length too much. So I'll keeping my locks along with the imperfections, it's only hair! My baby locks that are in the front are starting to grow like crazy. I'm not having to restart them everytime I wash anymore.Although styling options are minimal with different length locks, I'm dealing with it.

So as you can see I dyed my hair jet black. I coudldn't stand the lint any longer, plus trying to tweeze them out was compromising the strength of the locks. The color took some getting used to. My DH says my locks look fake now, lol. I in love with the color. I'm going to try not to dye again for a couple of years, however don't know how long I can hold out. I'm already thinking of another color, lol. What do you all think of my new color?


Anyhow I'm still in love with my locks, I still can't believe the growth, I'm amazed everytime I look at my progress pictures! Only regret that I have is not locking sooner. Well here are a few pictures to recap how my locks have progressed over the years! Enjoy

Since April I had to start maintaining my locks myself. My consultant had to stop doing hair for personal reasons. So far I have been doing pretty good. Taking that class came right on time. However I think I may seek a consultant soon, because I have gotten spoiled and I miss getting my hair done by someone else!

I promised myslef that I would take better care of my locks and style often.
I plan on finding a new style on you tube and posting pictures so stay tuned!

Another young lady blessed me with the opportunity to do her Sisterlocks. I'm truly honored. This is my second install. She started with one & a half inches of new growth and permed ends. We are both happy with the results. Enjoy the photos.

Happy Birthday To Me & My New Do

Yesterday was my birthday! I turned one year younger! I look like it but too bad I don't feel like it. Don't worry I'm working on that!

I decided to keep my locks for now, despite my imperfections, some of those were caused on my behalf and some I had no control over. I have a feeling that if I do start over, I will regret it later. So I'll keep the good with the bad! I styled my hair with a side pony tail and 4 flat twists. Not sure why I chose this style, guess I wanted to feel young again lol. Anyhow I love it!

I styled my hair right after I retightened and washed it.


I loved the ponytail with the straight locks, but I decided to jazz it up with some curls! I used Soft Spike Curlers. I let my hair air dry. My locks was still slightly damp when I took them out the next night, but the curls came out great!



This year I promised myself that I would style my hair more often. I just hope I keep my word. I know it will be very hot this summer. So I plan to try alot of updo's and ponytails. (ahh that feels good to say, never had a ponytail in my permed life, unless it was fake, lol). Plus I plan on getting back on track, with my dieting, and running. So the hair must be out of my way!

I had a great birthday! I went skating and had a blast! I would go skating twice a week every week if I could! That was my jumpstart to get back into exercising, but then I ruined it with my birthday cake. It was strawberry shortcake. What's a birthday with no cake?

Starting Over?

Ok so I have been having thoughts in my head that I want to start my Sisterlocks over AGAIN. For some reason I go through this EVERY year! I wish these feelings would go away for good!



I admit I get lock envy every time I see a head full of gorgeous locks. So what's my problem you ask. I have a lot of imperfections in my locks that nobody else notices but me. Go figure. I was hoping that it didn't happen but I think I'm starting to lose some hair due to the baby. I know its temporary but it's getting on my nerves. 51 percent of me wants to start over while 49 percent of me can't see myself cutting my hair after its gotten so long. This is the longest my hair has ever been in LIFE! So its a big deal for me. I know it will always grow back. My other alternative is to grow out my imperfections and then cut, because there is nothing wrong with my parting. So which route do I plan to take? I'm still not sure. Maybe I should weigh out the pro's and con's. I'm going to continue to try to talk myself out of this and love my locks the way they are.



Oh yeah, I'm almost finished retightening my hair. I plan to style it in a way that I have never done before. So stay tuned for pictures.

First Installation

I'm proud to complete my first set of Sisterlocks. I scheduled the install over 3 days, thank God because we needed it. It took 24 hours and some change to complete. This client had 5-7 inches of hair all over. She wanted larger Sisterlocks. She is extremely happy with the results.

I'm happy with the outcome for my first install, however there is always room for improvement. I have another consultation coming up, we shall see if this will make client #2. Wish me luck.

Open for Business

Well I finally got a chance to rearranging one of my rooms for my new adventure.... doing hair. I transformed my living room. It wasn't being used anyhow. We mostly use the family room. Why do they make two living room spaces anyhow? it's just a waist of space. Anyhow it still needs a bit more work, I definitely need a book shelf with some decorations,maybe a water feature. Anyhow all that matters is that I have a chair, my tools, and my ability to do Sisterlocks™. I'll post a picture later on when I have the finished product. Take Care

Special Shot Out To The New Mothers In Blog Land

Just want to say congrats to all the new mothers and mothers with new babies. I thank the lord that all of us had a safe delivery of beautiful and healthy babies.

Congrats to Ms. Trina , it's her first time. E. Ramona (Alaiyo), and Bajan Lilly . This is all our 3rd time, they say 3 times is a charm. We shall see......

If I forgot anyone sorry.

There is nothing like bringing life into the world. God is amazing!

It's Official: Meet Your Newly Trained Sisterlocks™ Trainee

So after years of debating if I should take the Sisterlocks™ Training Class, I finally took the plunge and so glad I did. My only regret was that I should have taken it sooner!

As an added bonus the originator of Sisterlocks™ Dr. JoAnne Cornwell herself was there along with the fabulous Roxanne Ray to teach the class. It was an honor and great surprise to have them both. I was not expecting Dr. Cornwell to be there, she's like a celebrity, lol. However when I met her she was the complete opposite of how some celebrities act. She was so laid back and so down to earth, a great pleasure to work with.

I'm so glad I took the class. I have learned so much, I have a new found respect for Trainee's and Consultant's. I met so many lovely ladies and their beautiful locks. In fact one of my long lost friend was in the class, we went to the same high school and college. Overall it was a great experience.



I finally decided to take this class because lately I have been enjoying my hair freedom with going natural and being Sisterlocked. This is the healthiest and longest my hair has ever been, and I'm so grateful. I want to give women and men that same freedom!

As I prepare myself for this new journey to become a consultant. I have two clients awaiting to get their Sisterlocks™. They are both excited and I'm excited for them. I'm thinking of a business name and currently working on my new website. I will post my new website once I have pictures.

New Arrival

They say the 3rd time is a charm, that indeed it is. I can't believe my boy finally made it here. I am so happy. My family now feels complete. Not sure what God has planned for me but I honestly don't think I can handle another pregnancy, I get too seriously ill. Anyhow all of those bad days that I had during this last pregnancy was worth this new little bundle of joy. I love him so much. I just worry how I'm going to provide my time and love for the rest of my family, so far it's ok. I just hope I stay on top of things.

I remember blogging during my last pregnancy while I was in labor. You can see that post HERE . However this time around things went much faster! With my last two kids I had to be induced because my kids were showing no signs of wanting to come out and join the world. Well I thought it was going to be the same with this one. Last Monday after seeing my doc ( 2cm at this time) I was scheduled to be induced on Wed. night but didn't make it, because I went into labor late that night around 12:30 am, it woke me out of my sleep. I wasn't sure what was happening, because I never went into labor on my own. So I called the hospital and spoke to the labor & delivery triage nurse and she tried to TALK ME OUT of NOT coming to the hospital. Saying that the contractions that I was having was false, to drink some water ( what is that suppose to do) and that I should go back to my doctors office in the morning. (WTF? is this lady ill? I think she just didn't want to do any more work). Anyhow after about an hour and more regular increased painful contractions, I took a shower and convinced myself that I should go to the hospital. Got there around 3:30 am, was 8-9 cm. If I would've listened to that stupid nurse I would have had my baby at home! Around 6 am and two pushes later I had my son. This time I went ALL NATURAL, NO PAIN MEDS, NO EPIDURAL . After I found out I was so far along, I figured it wasn't necessary. I admit when it came time to push I got scared and thought I made a mistake. My DH even got mad at the nurse for not giving me anything for pain, but that was my decision. However after I gave myself a pep talk and two pushes my son had joined us in the real world. I initially wanted a natural birth at a birthing center, but due to the fact that I was so ill and high risk it was necessary for me to see a doctor vs midwife. All in all I'm just grateful to have a beautiful healthy boy. I let my kids witness the birth my son was super excited, he even told me I did a good job on having his brother. Kids say the darnest things. As far as my daughter she didn't take it to well, she didn't like seeing her mother in pain. They both took to their little brother well. They both want to help out and show him love. I have seen no jealousy in my daughter like I thought I would which is great. We are a big happy family, I'm blessed, I couldn't ask for anything more.

Married to My Best Friend

As the years go by, I know that it's a beautiful blessing to be married to my best friend! I know this post is late but better late than never.

Me and DH have been friends since 96 (14 years), we had the opportunity to go to the same high school and college, and remained friends even after the fact. He said I was a stalker, I say God had a plan, lol! When I first laid eyes on him, I knew that we were suppose to be together just didn't think it would take as long as it did, but good things come to those who wait!

Me and DH had the chance to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary on a cruise to the Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. We had a blast!

Pipe Cleaners

After several attempts of using pipe cleaners for curls in the past, I had decided to give them up because they were not producing the results that I was looking for.

Until I came across Loc Rocker's Blog she had posted a great tutorial of a fellow locker using pipe cleaners.

Her locks are absolutely fabulous!

I am so thankful for this video. I decided to curl my hair right after a wash. I followed the video tutorial exactly. Since it was the weekend and really didn't go anywhere I left the pipe cleaners in for like two days. Then when I finally took them out I left them as is. Turns out I really loved the results, I couldn't believe my eyes with the kind of curls I got. It looked like my locks were still on the pipe cleaners. I then walked around with my curls untouched for a couple more days. After about day 3 I couldn't resist, I wanted to see what my curls looked like separated. I was res really happy with the results, overall! This time it was a much better experience. I received alot of compliments. In fact these are my curls of choice at the moment. I have learned that it is all in the technique.

The only downside is due to the fact that I have several new locks in the front of my head, the curls were not as full and long, but it's okay. They will grow back soon enough.

I have realized that some may not have never seen pipe cleaners or know what they actually are so I decided to post a pic and some small info. I'm not really sure were the term pipe cleaners come from, but I have learned that it is also called chenille which is a type of corded yarn. They are soft and bendable, you can shape them anyway you'd like, you can cut them as well. You can find "pipe cleaners" or chenille from any arts and craft store or even the arts and craft section in Walmart. I really hope this helps with those who have questions. Also can anyone tell me from were the term pipe cleaners originated from. Were these things actually used to clean out small pipes? Just wondering.
