Hello my name is Valencia but you can call me V. After years of damaging my hair, I knew there had to be a better way. So I decided to take the path to go natual and lock up. I was Sisterlcoked from June 2006 until Sept 2010 (4yrs). In which during that time I truly enjoyed my hair freedom. Unfortunately my journey had to come to end due to post partum hair loss. I have recently started a new journey this past September, and looking forward to all the ups and downs. As a new Sisterlocks™ Consultant I want to give women and men that same freedom.

Dandruff + Beautiful Locks Does Not Mix

I need help.

Lately I have been having problems with my scalp. It's starting to get to me.
It's like I experience dandruff with the seasons. Sometimes my dandruff is controlled( like I never had the problem to begin with) than other times it's never ending. Like after washing your hair a millions times only to see that the dandruff is still lurking around, like you didn't wash your hair at all. I hate it!

I'm not sure what to do anymore, it's like I think I know what works and I thought I used what works, but apparently it's not working for me, or I'm doing something wrong. Anyhow so I come to all of you asking for your tips and advice. My consultant advised me to see a dermatologist but I hate going to doctors (go figure) and I want to try to get rid of this problem one last time on my own. I would hate to go to the doctor and spend all that money only to have those products not work for me. I know there is something or some routine out there for me that could possibly work I just haven't found it yet. Anyhow enough of that.

Besides the dandruff problems. My locks are coming along pretty good. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but my new consultant had started several new locks for me due to so much new growth in between parts, however those new ones have sinced been washed out due to me forgetting to clip them down so they don't come out. Anyhow on my latest visit they were restarted along with several more at the front of my hair line and sides, which is a good sign it means my edges are filling back in, they are not completly there but it's a start. I'm hoping the next time I go back she can reattach the locks that were cut off from the ones that I combined together. Anyhow because of that I now have my straight parts again which wasn't a big deal before but now I like my parts. So my locks are still a work in progress but my hair has never been healthier and I'm so in love with my hair.

I finally got my camera but I haven't took any flatering pics of my hair yet so until then you all will only get this sneak peek.

As for my hubby locks, yes he still has them. He's hanging in there and he really likes how they are turning out. The only thing is he doens't like when I retighten them.I guess I do them to tight. I promised I would ease off some but he still hates it. I try to tell him its not good to wait too long in between retightenings and that it wouldn't take so long if he would get them retightened more frequently, but you know men, they never listen.
So I have a pic of his locks from early Nov. @ 7 months ( yes it's been that long he is going on 9 months now) However I will be retightening them soon and will post with updates.

As far as my kids they are doing great, they are getting big. My daughter is so bossy and likes to beat up on her older brother, and my son he is the total opposite of her he is calm and laid back so he lets her get away with it. I'm curious to see how long that lasts. I'll update you with pics soon, they are too cute.

Anyhow as far as my weight loss blog I have finally updated it, I ve been off track way to long and slowly but surely I'm getting back on. I had put back on 10 pounds but I have since lost 6 of those, so I'm getting there. If anyone's interested the link is on the left side bar or you can find it HERE

Anyhow I'll be back sooner than later,

Unitl next time much love!

Sounds like my monsters too! Kids! Hopefully when they get older she'll calm down.I have no tips for the dandruff problem-sorry. If you've tried ACV and Tea Tree oil and no joy, then I'm stumped!

Hi,

I really don't know what to say about the dandruff as i'm sure you've heard it all before. Are you drinking enough water? Heard wheatgrass is good. I only used it for a lil right in the beginning so i can't comment on it's effectiveness. I guess you've used Tea Tree, ACV. Peppermint and Lavender is good for the scalp. I did once use rosemary, fresh, which i boiled, cooled, strained and used as a spritz. I know you hate docs but may have to take a trip to the dermatologist

Your locs look lovely, and your husbands looks like they're fillin out. I've also got some new ones round the hairline. I forgot to protect then as well the wash before last so i just braided them. 2 seems to be staying in, 1 the hair is too short, and 1 at the side won't stay in pattern or braid.

Be blessed
Khandi

WOAH!! Your locks are looking fantabulous!!! Your husbands locks are awesome!!!

As for the dandruff...What's your current routine? I went to a dermatologist regarding my scalp last year and was prescribed a steroid...no thanks...I prefer more natural methods. Is your scalp oily or dry? What shampoo are you using? How often do you wash your hair? Are you ACVing? Sorry to ask so many questions but I wouldn't know where to being with a response without them...

I agree with Meikmeika. What's your current routine and scalp like? Some products dry your scalp out along with your hair. Maybe its time for a leave in conditioner?

What did your consultant say?

I am glad you got those 6 pounds back off. We have to celebrate every victory, no matter how big or small they are!

I like hubby's dreads...sometimes I long for tradtional ones. There was just less fuss ya know.

Anyhow, you and your locks look excellent! TTYL :)

Hey Thandi

I hope she will calm down too, because if not I can tell this girl is going to cause trouble, lol

Hey Khandi

Thanks for the compliments. I just recently washed, I tried clipping down the new ones but of course some still unravelled, like you said maybe they are just too short for now. Hopefully the next time I got to the consultant she can attach some locks to the new ones.

Meikmeika

Hey girl, thanks for the compliments. As far as going to the doc, I'm afrraid they are oging to prescribe something that is not worth it.

I guess it would have made since to let you all know my routine so yall can figure out whats going on.

I will post a separate response, below.

Sophia

Thanks for the kind words, as for this weight loss battle, it's an everyday struggle but I'm trying to hang in there.

AS for the leave in conditioner, I do I use some brands but probaly not the right ones, anyhow aren't the leave in conditioners only benefit the locks?

Anyhow I will say more in the next response.

ROUTINE?

I figured out what problem # 1 is. I don't really have one, lol. Well I did have one but then it kind of faded away.

I try sticking to a routine but it's hard. I'm so busy that I barely have time for myself let alone treat my hair/locks halfway decent.

So I guess I need to first find out what works for me and make a routine out of it, Or vice versa get a routine to see what works and what doens't.

Another problem of mine after I do find something that works. I get used to it and stop using the product for a while and then my problem returns. So basically I need to stick to a regimen NO MATTER WHAT. Even if the problem has gone aways.

Okay so I guess you all pretty much helped me, and let me learn what the problem was, ME, lol.

SO yesterday I kind of started a regimen, I'll give it a month to see how it works out.

If it doens't work then it's back to the drawing board. I will try some of your reommendations.

Thanks ladies for responding. I will update you all on any progress if any.

Take Care

This should have been a post not a comment, lol.

Hmm. Well, I'm a big ingredient reader person, so maybe your scalp is reacting to something? I'm not particularly fond of the SLS/SLES family, so you may want to check out if those products are high on the list. I'm doing a product review this Sunday, so maybe it will help you.

I had an experience of dryness a lot like yours that I posted on my site. I ultimately had to use Sulfur 8 shampoo. It was burning but I just let it do it's thing. The flaking, oozing, & dryness was overwhelming. I remembered that I was allergic to aloe vera and realized that it was in the SL starter shampoo. So my situation is a little different from yours because you are further along in your journey. At the same time Sulfur 8 really cleared up the situation. I know that when my daughter had dermatitis her dermatologist prescribed Nizorol shampoo, which unfortunately was so strong it took her hair out. All is well now but I just remembered her saying to try Sulfur 8 or Selson Blue shampoo if the Nizorol was too strong. She also recommended using a little on her skin. Well I remembered her recommendations and I ended up using a little of the Sulfur 8 on my face and neck as well. It helped tremendously! I felt so much better in the end. It was truly worth it. As far as your SL's they look great! I can't tell that you are having any issues. But that's the thing about it all, it's occuring at the scalp and it can seriously be irritating and painful. So my heart goes out to you.:) I also have to add that I was surprised when I first discovered that there was another Butter/Butahfly out there. So from one 'fly sistah to another...Much Love! LOCK ON GIRLY!

Hey BB - your locs look luscious -- it's great to see your update!
Dandruff: What's happening internally? I'm a huge fan of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA). There's plenty of info at genuine health food stores and here on the net. Read up on recommendations and be sure you're getting at least that amount or more. You can even create your own salad dressings using EFAs vs. other oils. Don't worry about weight gain - this is the good stuff. :-) Also B-vitamins (e.g., B6 & B12 (esp if you're a vegetarian)and quality zinc. If you can get hold of a book titled "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by Phyllis & James Balch, it's a wealthy resource for these concerns and many others. I'm a "wanna-be/maybe on my way to being" a nutritionist and this is my little "bible" on the subject. :-) I look forward to updates from you on this issue.

Love & Light,
BlessedGem

You and me on that one! I currently maintain my brother's locks and I always have to nag him like crazy about being available to do his retightenings on time! Sometimes 3-4 months pass and he wonders why it hurts and take so long lol. Because his hair is very rebellious and his roots knot up and stick together then his scalp is sensitive. He is lucky I love him. :P Your husbands locks look great though - thick and healthy. I hope he sticks it out to the end. :D
