Hello my name is Valencia but you can call me V. After years of damaging my hair, I knew there had to be a better way. So I decided to take the path to go natual and lock up. I was Sisterlcoked from June 2006 until Sept 2010 (4yrs). In which during that time I truly enjoyed my hair freedom. Unfortunately my journey had to come to end due to post partum hair loss. I have recently started a new journey this past September, and looking forward to all the ups and downs. As a new Sisterlocks™ Consultant I want to give women and men that same freedom.

Guess Who's Cooking?

Well I finally decided to get my but in the kitchen and start doing something constructive, so I think.
MeikMeika has been getting on my case about posting pictures, so here you go. Now I have to admit I am not a pro in the kitchen but I do try. My initial goal was to try something new every week. I think that lasted about one week! Lol. When I started the Master Cleanse that's when the cooking went down the drain, because there was no need to cook! Also being on Weight Watchers
and counting points, kinda makes it difficult to count your points and to make sure you are getting the right proportion. So I usually make my meals separate from everyone else. Anyhow I decided to dust off my WW's cook book from last year, I'm sure it will make things a little easier.
Lets see whats first?

This first dish is Tofu and Veggies in Peanut Sauce . I'm not sure why they called it Peanut Sauce because they actually use peanut butter. I love peanut butter! I know it sounds like a weird combination but don't knock it till you try it! Also not sure why they called it veggies because the recipe only had broccoli, I guess if you wanted to add more veggies you could. It still turned out good. I loved it and I will be cooking that again.

The next dish wasn't nothing new. I just decided take a picture. I cooked French Style Green Beans, Plantains, Brown Rice with Black Beans(with diced tomatoes, garlic, oregano and onion). This was my first time putting diced tomatoes in my Black beans and I have to admit that it gave it a lil more flavor.

Now this is one of my favorites. Its a vegetable and tofu pot pie. I made this on my own. I was lazy and bought pie ready crusts. I sauteed some mixed vegetables, tofu, with onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. I then mixed in Cream of Mushroom soup, then poured it in the pie crust and added another pie crust on top. This was delicious, however it is also high in fat due to the crust. I meant to take the picture before I sliced it. (I was eager to dig in) Then I forgot to take a picture of it cut so you all could see the middle, go figure. Oh well maybe next time.

Last but not least this is a vegetable stir-fry with a meatless substitute. I have discovered that I like squash and zucchini. I just made this on my own. I cut up Summer Squash and Zucchini in little pieces along with sweet onions, green, yellow, and red peppers. I sauteed them in Peanut Sauce and added Morningstar Farms Veggie Steak Strips . They actually taste pretty decent. This was my first time ever trying peanut sauce and after discovering that it was spicy. I had to make another batch for my DH and son. I really liked that meal as well.

Just today I made some Cinnamon-Rasin Banana Bread Pudding. I got the recipe from my Weight Watchers cook book. It was my first time ever making bread pudding and I think it actually came out good. I forgot to take pictures as usual. However if my bread pudding still looks picture ready tomorrow, I will update the post with a picture.

I have been a vegetarian for about 6 months now! I am glad that I decided to change my eating habits. Since I wasn't a big meat eater, I knew it wouldn't be that hard. Also with the support of my DH he decided to go along this journey with me and I'm glad because I know it probably would have been difficult if he was still eating meat. Anyhow I have decided to take it up a notch by becoming vegan before the end of this year. I know I can do without eggs. It's that I'm addicted to cheese. It tastes so gooooood! I'm sure I will be fine with out it. I have got to try that cheese by Follow Your Heart that MeikMeika suggested. I also got to try veganaise because I like mayo but I'm not addicted to it like cheese. I know becoming vegan may become a problem for my DH because he is in love with Mayo, he acts like he can't live without it! lol Anyhow me and DH had some concerns about bringing our kids up on a vegetarian lifestyle. My DH thinks we should let the kids eat meat, until they get old enough to decide. I on the other hand thinks it should be the other way! I think we should raise them as vegetarians/vegans and when they get old enough to know the difference then let them decide on if they want to continue or not. I guess he is concerned of them not getting enough B12 and other common deficiencies that vegetarians/vegans get. However my main concern is when they get older and start school, and have to eat at school. What if they forget? Or what if they trade lunches or something. If you have any suggestions let me know. As of now I know that I will probably have to pack their lunches for a very long time. My son J is in Day care and I ask for the weekly menu in advance so I know what to bring him to replace a meal if needed. Right now its working because the school is good about feeding the kids veggies and healthy snacks. I just have to replace the meat every now and then, but I'm thinking about what is going to happen when they get older when they don't have supervision when eating lunch. Oh well I guess I have time to figure that one out!
Well I hope to start back cooking so I can get good at it! Lol If you all have any meal ideas let me know. Until next time much love

Oh Boy..This is a long one...

Everything looks delicious!!!! Espeically the black beans, rice, green beans and plantains!! Girl you can cook!!! I'm a recipe kind of girl and it looks like you winged some awesome veggie meals!! I bow to you...I would have loved to see the inside of the pot pie, I haven't had one in years..

As I've mentioned before, finding a cheese sub is soooo hard. The Follow Your Heart cheese was the best I've found yet but I don't crave cheese like many. The only cheesey item I miss is Mozzarrella Sticks and all I have to do is think about what they did to my stomach and the craving is gone.

I can't believe we both made bread pudding!!!! Great minds do think alike. Would you mind emailing me that WW recipe. It's always easier to already have the points values of recipes then trying to calculate everything out before eating. I know that the Sparkpeople.com website will allow you to calculate the calories, fat, fiber, etc of recipes and you can get the points for any recipes you may make that way.

As for your husband loving Mayo. Please go out and get Veganaise as soon as you can. I use it when I make mock tuna or chicken salad and it tastes just like it. My boyfriend loves it..

My boyfriend and I are always discussing if our children will be vegetarian or vegan. Based on the meal I've cooked that day his answer may vary. If it's a great meal, our kids will be vegan, if the meal is ok, our kids will be vegetarian. At this time I feel my children will be better off as vegetarians but it's still hard to say. It's extremely possible my children may be lactose intolerant and worrying about dairy may not be an option. The main goal is for them to be healthy which to me doesn't include meat, maybe if the US didn't pump so many hormones in our dairy and meat products it would be considered but until then, if they will be consuming any dairy products they will be organic (which may not even be much of a difference from all I'm reading). As long as you give them a healthy foundation they will do the rest. Yeah they may go out and eat stuff you prefer them not to but as long as you're providing them that healthy foundation, you're doing good.

Great Post!!!!

Hey Girl, Thanks for the compliments, but I think my Dh is a much better cook, but I'm working on it, soon I will pass him and he will be asking me took all the time! Do the sell Follow YOur Hear in Stores? Or can you only purchase it online. I tried some veggie slices today and don't really care for them. They are doable but not by itself. Sure I email you the recipe. So the vegainase is good? He already said no and hasn't even tried it yet but I will sneak it in his food one day and see hopw he likes it.
I tried Shirataki for the first time where has this stuff been? Or where have I been? Am I late? It is such a healthy alternative for regular pasta. I can deal with out the smell, but it isn't that bad. Anyhow hopefully I'll be trying something new soon. Take Care
